About Us

1824 SQUADRON AIR CADETS, SAFFRON WALDEN

Aged between 13 and 17? Into sports, travel and the outdoors? Interested in aviation, the military, shooting and training?
Consider joining the Saffron Walden Air Training Corps – fostering the spirit of adventure.
These include visiting RAF camps, competing in sporting events, flying, gliding, community work and taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Alongside this range of activities, cadets have the opportunity to learn about aviation and aerospace as well as gain leadership, navigation and marksmanship skills.

1824 Squadron also engages in the BTEC scheme and offer qualifications in Public Services and Aviation Studies, running in parallel with the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, First Aid and Radio Communication courses. The social aspect of the training environment is also very important to the Air Training Corps – you will get to meet and make a lot of new friends! The organisation develops cadets’ personal qualities and a sense of community and citizenship valued by employers, both military and civil.

Our aims are to:

  • Promote and encourage a practical interest in aviation and the Royal Air Force among young people
  • Provide training which will be useful in the Services and civilian life
  • Encourage the spirit of adventure and develop qualities of leadership and good citizenship
